Frontside x Streetwise Winter Bash

The Frontside X Streetwise Winter Bash was introduced and celebrated in Birmingham for the first time last weekend, spanning over the whole day of 19th of November.

The first of its kind hosted by Frontside x Streetwise and sponsored by The Real District, Blunt Scooters, Drone Scooters, Addict Scootering, Supremacy Scooters, Dogg Scooters, Dominator Scooters, Oath Components, Invert Supreme, Urban Art, Triad Scooters, Chilli Scooters, Blazer Pro Scooters and of course, SkateHut.

The Event was held at Creation Skatepark in Moseley Birmingham. The Winter Bash was a scooter-only event and over 100 scooter riders turned up to the event from various age groups and diverse backgrounds. It was nice seeing all of the Scoot scene come together from pro riders like Jamie Hull, Sophie Molyneux and Taylor Barden to Young New Generation Scooter riders like Marcel Nadd and Hayden Harris

The day-long event commenced at 10 am, with riders arriving and forming a queue outside the venue as early as 9 am. The event ended promptly at 5 pm but a few riders stayed on till 7 to film, including a designated lunch break at 1:30 pm.

Creation caters to a load of different riding styles street and park. The Winter Bash went above and beyond by incorporating Vert and Bowl disciplines, a rarity in scooter competitions for the past few years. Witnessing this firsthand was truly amazing.

Congratulations to the winner, Jamie Hull, Ollie Myers, who secured second place, and Frankie Webb, securing the third spot.

Who is Streetwise?

Streetwise is a homegrown collective of 3 main riders, Harry Brigden, Karson Crane and Josh Shaw. With a larger group of friends, they began filming videos at their local skate park Ise Lodge

As time went on Harry took his talents to the larger community filming videos of street jams and events, making himself a staple of the community filming some of the best Jam videos.

We spoke to Jamie Weir one of the extended members of Streetwise and he said “Most of the streetwise crew have been met through street jams where like-minded personalities all come about, we all have one thing in common and that's the love for the sport, and we've bonded over that we all met in right place right time situations.

streetwise was involved in the Winter Bash event as the main contribution for filming, streetwise has had quite a relationship with Frontside over the last 2 years, filming their last anniversary jam v2”

I also spoke to Harry Brigden the owner of Streetwise who said “Brandon absolutely smashed yet another event and it shows, everyone had such an amazing time and as I scroll through the footage while I type this I can see it definitely carried over into the video and i cannot wait to share this day with the rest of the scooter community.”

Streetwise favourite highlights were:

1. Jamie's double flip over small step up

2. Tyler's BACKFLIP over the box transfer.

3. Ollie's bail but that didn’t stop him from going back to stomp the trick securing himself second place and the stack of the day!

Interview with Frontside

My name is Brandon Carter, I am the founder and co-owner of Frontside Supply and Organiser of the Winter Bash

Where did the idea of the Winter Bash come from?

The idea of the winter bash came around at our 2023 V2 Anniversary Jam, during this time of the year there is little to no events for scootering going on and I wanted to fill that gap for the community.

How come you choose Creation as base instead of Rugby?

Creation was a no-brainer for me as 2 of our riders (Jamie Weir, Frankie Webb) are locals to creation and the venue hasn’t seen an event like this for scootering since 2011!

Favourite highlights of the event?

My favourite highlights was seeing how many people were queuing at the doors before we opened, watching everyone throw down and having a good time.

Really cool to see scooters on the vert tell us more about this?

So the idea of using the vert was to test the waters for a national competition I’m in the works of making specifically for in tandem with the winter bash. News about it will be released mid 2024.

How did you choose the winners?

The winners in pro were based on consistency, commitment and overall performance of the day which was decided by myself and our event MC Moses Obibi.

Overall, how was the event?

The 2023 Frontside x Streetwise Winter Bash was a complete and total success to what we were expecting, I couldn’t be prouder for the team in both our pop up shop and riders for the performance they did on that day.

I want to thank all of the Pro riders who came to support and shred with us! You made it a movie for us and I couldn’t be more grateful.

I cannot thank the staff at Creation enough, especially Sam for being there every step of the way and helping this event become a reality!

A huge thank you to all our sponsors who provided the goods to give to the riders also, hope to see you all next year!
