This summer, if you’re wondering around the beautiful city of Birmingham you might notice that there are a few BEAR-Y strange animals hanging around. But have no fear, they don’t bite! The bears are part of a very exciting charity project in conjunction with Birmingham Children's Hospital and Wild In Art called The Big Sleuth (Sleuth is a collective noun for a group of Bears – you learn something new every day), and each one has its own wacky and wonderful design curated by different artists!
At SkateHut we love doing our bit for charity, and this year our chosen charity is Birmingham Children’s hospital, so it would have been very stupid of us not to sponsor one of these amazing bears! We’re also happy to be supporting the big sleuth and raising awareness of Sun Bears who are currently under threat of extension, because quite frankly they are super cute and the world would be a sadder place without them!
Over the next few weeks our bear will be decorated by a local artist, ready to make her debut into society. Inspired by the strength and empowerment of the Roller Derby community, our bear will be decorated head to toe in bold Roller Derby uniform as well as the skates, knee pads and most importantly, the tattoos!
And of course, like all Roller Derby players, our bear needs a name that represents her feisty personality in the most weird and paw-esome way possible (all bear puns are allowed) so keep a look out for our name the bear competition, as well as loads of other fun events and ways to get involved!

Massive Thank you goes out to The Birmingham Blitz Dames and The Crash Test Brummies who came out to meet our bear.
