Flippers

Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace is steeped in history and was originally a hotspot open between 1979-1981 in Los Angeles.

The London location is one of the main spaces for the city’s growing skate community, restoring its cultural identity through immersive musical programs that house performers from around the globe.

Co-founders Liberty Ross and Kevin Wall partnered with Usher to launch the spectacular roller disco palace and since then a load of live music acts have flown in from all over the globe including names such as Billie Eilish and Kaytranada.

Liberty Ross said on her Instagram “Welcome back to Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace, a pleasure palace where there are no barriers, no taboos, no inhibition, where you are not defined by your race, faith, sexuality or gender, where you can be who you want to be on a floor designed to float. At Flipper’s we’re all equal, we’re all just having fun. We roll for the physical rush, the pure joy, the breath of freedom. One foot in front of the other, we bounce to the beat, communion in liberty, we come together for a moment, a lifetime. A home for everyone, a family.”

As well as live music Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace has a restaurant that serves American-styled dishes and a skate shop. On arrival you will have to check in on the ground floor, Skates are available to rent. Then all the jamming happens on the roller rink floor upstairs.

Paradise Skate World

Paradise Skate World opened in the summer of 2022, located in Manchester and is inspired by the intergalactic world. The interactive roller skate rink is accompanied by an out-of-this-world bar, where guests can enjoy a load of different snacks including pizza, mochi and nachos, alongside space-themed cocktails. This experience is open to all leveled skaters from beginner to pro.

Co-owner Larissa-Sophie Houghton explains “We have created an amazing new world where people can escape reality, get lost in music and roller-skate into space. The idea of the bar is to dock into the space station, where we wanted to create the imaginary experience of how it feels to be transported to a galactic beach; the place to sip cocktails from the promenade and feel a surge of energy from space skaters as they whizz around you in orbit.”

You wouldn't know of it if you haven't been following Skatebrum on Instagram, Skatebrum is made up of enthusiasts and newbies who meet every single day for free. Founded by avid roller skater Carl Edghill. Carl said “What kicked it off was Covid - it went from 30 skaters up to 100. I think because of the lockdown people were looking for an outdoor activity that you could do. You couldn’t go swimming or to the cinema, you couldn’t do anything really, and skating ticks all of the boxes. It’s a friendly environment down here, it’s about the community spirit. It’s like a family.”
